Professor Shahram Sarkani has engaged in engineering research, technology development, and engineering education since 1980. As author of numerous technical publications, he remains engaged with important ongoing research in the field of systems engineering with applications to the reliability of civil infrastructure.

Professor Sarkani joined the GW faculty in 1986, where his administrative appointments include chair of the Civil, Mechanical, and Environmental Engineering Department (1994-1997); Interim Associate Dean for Research and Development for the School of Engineering and Applied Science (1997-2001); Director of EMSE Online and Off-Campus Programs (since 2001); and Director of SEAS Online and Off-Campus Programs (since 2016). In his current roles, Professor Sarkani designs and administers online and off-campus programs for the School of Engineering and Applied Science. Today these online and off-campus programs offer classes in cities around the U.S. and overseas, and enroll over 1,000 graduate students pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees in Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Cybersecurity Policy and Compliance, and Electrical Engineering.
