Professional lecturer in the Engineering Management and Systems Engineering Department, John Sahlin, has over 25 years of experience in the corporate world researching complex systems engineering, particularly focused on cybersecurity. As Vice President of Cyber Solutions at General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), Sahlin leads the cybersecurity strategic planning, client engagement, and solutions development for GDIT’s clients across the federal government. For his innovation in defending clients in the Washington, D.C. region, he received WashigntonExec’s 2023 Pinnacle Award for Cybersecurity Executive of the Year, Public Company

Sahlin’s team of cybersecurity professionals helps federal clients address emerging cybersecurity threats against the U.S. critical infrastructure and national security systems. Additionally, he leads a research and development program working to establish an integrated Zero Trust solution for government clients. They recently fielded this solution to an international military exercise, demonstrating the first deployment of Zero Trust at the edge in a tactical military environment.

“This award is a recognition that cybersecurity is not about mere compliance to standards; it’s about effecting mission objectives. In order to do that, you’ve got to get out of the lab and into the field,” Sahlin stated.
